NGS Elevation Activity

This activity utilized forty volunteers over the entire day and included three parts: setting upland bench marks, running level lines, and wetland SET deep rod marks.

1) Setting Upland Bench Marks: Establishing concrete post marks in three areasto later serve as vertical control. This involved digging 4' holes in the ground with post-hole diggers, filling the holes with cement, and placing a brass disk.

2) Running Level Lines:  Running levels from vertical control outside CBEC to the commemorative/centennial mark on the grass strip in front of the parking lot.  There were two rod crews, each with a pair of rod holders

3) Wetland SET Deep Rod Marks: Establishing 3-4 deep rod SET bench marks along the main road (the area that is eroding rapidly and gets flooded during high tides).  Small boardwalks will be constructed too.
